Building The Wall

Posted: June 27, 2012 in Fatherhood, God's man, Marriage

As Nehemiah was encouraging his people to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem their enemies were  right there to ridicule them and threaten them. This lead to some discouragement among the workers. Nehemiah then gave his people a charge. His charge got very personal. In the big task of rebuilding a city wall, Nehemiah was able to bring the importance down to a personal level.

Therefore I stationed some of the people behind the lowest points of the wall at the exposed places, posting them by families, with their swords, spears and bows. 14 After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.” Nehemiah 4:13-14 NIV

Nehemiah posted people in the lowest points, they stood in the gap to protect against opposing forces. He reminded the people of the strength of the Lord and reminded them who they were fighting for.

The challenge is still with us today guys. We are called to stand in the gap, to protect others against opposing forces even when they discourage and threaten us. We need to make the battle personal to fight to protect our families against the opposing forces of the world.

It is our job men, to protect and to lead and to teach our family, to fight for them against opposing forces. They are counting on us to be there.
