One dictionary defined perseverance as continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulty, failure or opposition. That’s a good description. But James had this to say, as he upped the game:

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4  NIV

It is often difficult to see the joy when we face trials in life but there is satisfaction in persevering through the hard times and issues of life. Hard times in life are not a matter of if, they are a matter of when. We know that they will come and we don’t always know what corners they are around. It shouldn’t surprise us that they come.

We show our strength, our character in how we handle the hard times. It’s easy to show joy when things are going great but the man who perseveres in hard times, the guy who shows great faith when things get tough, he’s the guy that gets it. He’s the guy that I want to be like.
