Hey Guys,

Here’s an article to check out!

Have you ever experienced a time in your life when you had so much passion for doing a specific thing. It’s that time in your life when you feel, maybe you know, that God has called you to something.

I don’t know what that thing is for you, but you know God has called you to do a work.  You begin by putting effort to move forward and pushing hard to accomplish the thing you have been called to do.  Some would say, your hair is on fire and you’re running fast.  No obstacle is too big and nothing can stop you, because you know in your heart that the effort is important and it could change people’s lives.

The next step, you send out a call for people, some friends, to come along side of you and share in this great work.  Like the night before Christmas, you filled with anticipation to see all the people come out to help with you calling.

The response may be great. But maybe the response isn’t so great. The quantity isn’t the important thing. The important thing is the hearts of the people who do come. This is an important time, you can easily get side tracked from your original work by concentrating on the reason more people are not responding. Or you can continue with a small group that the Lord has provided and continue your forward motion. Check out what happened to Gideon’s army in Judges 7.

There is a great story in the Book of Nehemiah about how Nehemiah’s enemies were trying to get him off task. Nehemiah’s had a simple answer for them to not get side tracked. He said, So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?” (Nehemiah 6:3)

Go read the story and know that the call may only be answered by a few and that’s OK,  Jesus and 12 men changed the world forever!

I had lunch with a buddy yesterday. We talked about life and ministry. We talked about how great our spouses are and our kids. We also talked about how no matter how much we try, how hard we work at it that we always mess up (sin) and how grateful we are for Christ’s sacrifice for us as sinners, for God’s grace and for forgiveness.

He talked about how great it would be for men to do one simple thing for their family members each day. That one thing was before leaving the house each morning to go to each of our kids and to our wife and lay a hand on their shoulder and say a quick prayer. Whether they are awake or asleep, it doesn’t matter. Asking that the Lord’s power and presence would be powerfully shown in their lives that day.

I started this morning and am going to do this each day for a week as best I can. So, if you are up for the challenge join me. If you do and you end up with a cool story that comes out of this please let me know, you can email your story to

Stronger Together!

It’s pretty simple, 1 Peter 5:8 says it clearly, the enemy is prowling around out there looking to devour men.  Guys are being attacked by evil forces  – every day and often they don’t feel like they have a place to turn for help and support.

Every guy that I know needs to have the support of his brothers look at 1 Peter 5:9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

Brothers are all undergoing the same kind of suffering, we need each other to stand firm. We need other men to help us resist the enemy.  I don’t care who you are, if you are a guy, at some point you need somebody to encourage you, to spur you on to stand firm. One of the great things about being part of a local body of believers is that we get to have others in our lives that we can be there for and that can be there for us.
Part of being God’s man is being in community with other men, we all need Jesus and we all need each other.

GET IN – But, I’m Already In

Every spring Major League Baseball players go to Spring Training. During Spring Training a lot of time is spent reviewing the basics or running the drills.  Highly paid, specialized athletes, the very best in the business before each season spend time on the basics of playing the game.  Why, did they forget?  Did they lose their talent over the winter? Probably not but doing the basics in Spring Training will help the players be ready for the season.

You may be far beyond the stage of Get In.  You may be in the Get Healthy, the Get Strong or even the Get Going part of the pathway.  If you are, that’s great but here are two things to keep in mind. First of all, it never hurts to review the basics once in a while. And second, you should be reaching out to help new guys GET IN. New guys are going to need to start at the beginning, they need basic training and who better to train them than a guy who is further along in the journey.  I would imagine that somebody once helped you with the basics.

GET IN – The Need For Friends

Posted: August 28, 2012 in God's man

Ecclisiastes 4: 9-10 says,  Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: 10If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! NIV

Isolation is a dilemma facing many men today. Unfortunately, it occurs in the lives of men inside and outside of the church. These men have become so isolated that they have no close friends to turn to when life gets tough.  Today men are turning to liquor, drugs and pornography at an alarming rate to combat their pain and loneliness.

Isolation is not what was originally intended for us, we weren’t created to be alone. Overcoming isolation takes hard work and fighting it is a battle that we must win in order to raise our effectiveness as God’s men.

Check out the book Being God’s Man by Pursuing Friendships, it is our suggested resource for this quarter.
