Yesterday Pastor Dave talked about praying with your wife. Here is a link to an article that will help you get started if you are feeling uneasy.

Here’s a little encouragement for you. Like anything worth doing, it’s hard to get new habits started but this is one that will be of great benefit to many, many couples. Do the hard work, talk to your wife about praying together and just get started. Let it feel odd at first, its OK but the push through the odd. In the end it will be a major win.

Have you ever experienced a time in your life when you had so much passion for doing a specific thing. It’s that time in your life when you feel, maybe you know, that God has called you to something.

I don’t know what that thing is for you, but you know God has called you to do a work.  You begin by putting effort to move forward and pushing hard to accomplish the thing you have been called to do.  Some would say, your hair is on fire and you’re running fast.  No obstacle is too big and nothing can stop you, because you know in your heart that the effort is important and it could change people’s lives.

The next step, you send out a call for people, some friends, to come along side of you and share in this great work.  Like the night before Christmas, you filled with anticipation to see all the people come out to help with you calling.

The response may be great. But maybe the response isn’t so great. The quantity isn’t the important thing. The important thing is the hearts of the people who do come. This is an important time, you can easily get side tracked from your original work by concentrating on the reason more people are not responding. Or you can continue with a small group that the Lord has provided and continue your forward motion. Check out what happened to Gideon’s army in Judges 7.

There is a great story in the Book of Nehemiah about how Nehemiah’s enemies were trying to get him off task. Nehemiah’s had a simple answer for them to not get side tracked. He said, So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?” (Nehemiah 6:3)

Go read the story and know that the call may only be answered by a few and that’s OK,  Jesus and 12 men changed the world forever!

At the end of the movie The Lorax (yes I did, I have two young kids) there is a quote that is interesting. Here it is “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” Dr. Seuss

That quote struck a chord. Add to that the song Kings and Queens by Audio Adrenaline and it makes for some interesting thoughts. If you haven’t heard the song, go find it and take a listen. Part of the song says “if not us, who will be like Jesus to the least of these. If not us tell me who will be like Jesus, like Jesus to the least of these.”

Jesus said in Matthew 25:45 ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

All of that leads me to the following questions. Who are the “least of these” that God is calling you to? What are you doing about it? What am I doing? What are WE going to do together, for the least of these?

There are people all around us that hunger and thirst for the truth, for Jesus. There are those strangers around us who are in bondage, imprisoned by the chains of the world. They need Jesus. We all have someone or a group of people to reach out to and God will use us to share His Truth with them if we open our hearts our minds and do it.

Unless someone like you and me cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better for them. It’s not.

Our lives are built on and around relationships. We all have people in our lives that we need to build right relationship with and building those right relationships is a hard thing to do. Building anything takes effort and so do our relationships.

For men, there are some relationships that we just have to get right. Our relationship with Jesus is always first as our Lord and Savior.

We need to have a right relationship with ourselves, knowing who we really are. We need to know what our strengths are and know our areas of weakness, those things that tempt us to lose focus.

Men need to have some friends in their lives with similar moral convictions. We need guys who we can do life with, guys who we can count on and who can count on us.

We all need to understand what our relationship with our wife should look like and do our best to understand her heart. We need to understand what our role is in marriage and develop that to be the best husbands.

It would seem that in our culture, our families need work. For God’s men building and supporting our families the right way should be a priority and not take second place to work or hobbies or anything else.

These relationships take effort, they aren’t always easy but they are at the core of who we are. If you need some work on one or all of these areas in your life, come join us for Core Health at Bethel Church.

Stronger Together!

Posted: October 3, 2012 in God's man, Stronger Together

It’s pretty simple, 1 Peter 5:8 says it clearly, the enemy is prowling around out there looking to devour men.  Guys are being attacked by evil forces  – every day and often they don’t feel like they have a place to turn for help and support.

Every guy that I know needs to have the support of his brothers look at 1 Peter 5:9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

Brothers are all undergoing the same kind of suffering, we need each other to stand firm. We need other men to help us resist the enemy.  I don’t care who you are, if you are a guy, at some point you need somebody to encourage you, to spur you on to stand firm. One of the great things about being part of a local body of believers is that we get to have others in our lives that we can be there for and that can be there for us.
Part of being God’s man is being in community with other men, we all need Jesus and we all need each other.
